The War of Art by Steven Pressfield is #1 on the list of books that motivate me to keep writing. Pressfield doesn’t cut corners and nor does he apologize for his direct approach. One piece of advice that I remember everyday is (and I’m paraphrasing – I guess it’s time for a re-read), “if you want to be a professional writer then act like one. Unless, you are bed ridden with a cold you get up and write through your sneezes”.
He speaks about the war against Resistance. He (actually…I’m reading this in the book right now) says:
“Are you a writer who doesn’t write, a painter who doesn’t paint, an entrepreneur who never starts a venture? Then you know what Resistance is.”
It may sound simple enough to just get up and and go and do it. If it is for you then…great for you, but for those who feel like they need a push sometimes (which is everyone sometimes), pick up this book, read it and start writing.
